Think you know what you want to do for your life’s work? What do you actually know about the job you’re chasing? Will you like it or regret it?
You can “audition” jobs by volunteering at the places you might be working.
You might be emptying the trash or going for coffee, but you’ll see the day-to-day job, up close and personal, and it might be really different from what you’ve been told.
Talking with the employees will give you a feel for what they like and don’t like about the job and what they might have done differently.
You might learn about related fields that could be a better fit. Go online and check out the Dictionary of Occupational Titles and the Occupational Outlook Handbook.
The Dictionary will tell you about the job and the Handbook will tell you about the future of the job.
You’re likely to have 6-7 related jobs in your career.
As Dr. Seuss says, “Oh the places you will go!”
