Wave after wave of research about how technology impacts our lives keeps rolling out and the results aren’t great.
There’s no doubt that technology makes life easier, but there’s just too much. Too many notifications. Too many people demanding your immediate attention.
There’s no escape. Unending digital alerts are driving us crazy.
Thirty-three percent of the notifications you receive can trigger a downturn in your mood. Usually, these are the “housekeeping”-types of notices such as updates and Wi-Fi availability. They have the most power to put you in a bad mood.
Work-related notifications also have a negative impact, especially if they arrive in bulk.
The constant interruptions and competition for your attention are likely to make you irritable and feel out of control.
Be careful of the apps you install and the number of notifications they send to you.
Control the controllable.
