These intrusive thoughts about the “to do” list are related to the Zeigarnik effect. What's that? In 1920, Russian psychologist, Dr. Zeigarnik saw waiters remembering complex orders and once the order was delivered, the information vanished!
Her follow-up research proved that unfinished jobs are remembered while completed jobs are “deleted” from the mind.
How do I deal with that nagging brain of mine? Finish what you start.
Need some tips? Use the timer technique. Set a timer for 25 minutes, work intently, record your progress, take a 5-minute break and repeat. Then, take a 15-20 minute break after the 4th work period. You’ll have amazing productivity and your mind will stop nagging you!
