Cyberbullying is so prevalent that Microsoft developed a system that identifies the “jerks” and reduces their privileges, eventually, quarantining them to play only with other “jerks”.
Other ranking systems rate posts to determine if they cause harm. The problem with these approaches is that they don’t prevent initial attacks which cause catastrophic and permanent social and psychological damage.
Once a word is spoken, it cannot be taken back. Sticks and stones can break your bones, but words can break your heart and your spirit.
This is the case of technology outpacing social policy and a company’s ability to deal with those who cause harm. Oh, the unintended consequences.
