We know that music is powerful, but current brain research proves it. People who sing together bond faster than if they did any other activity side-by-side. Songs calm babies for longer periods of time than does talking to them. They actually stay calmer for twice as long.
Now, you may be saying, “Oh, but I can’t sing!” Your baby isn’t going to say, “Gee, she’s really off key!”
Take a simple song or two and the more you sing it, the more confident you’ll get and the better you’ll sound.
The first rhythm that baby learned was your heartbeat and heard your voice very early in the womb, so don’t worry! Go ahead and sing. Baby will love it, be calmed by it and the memories you’ll make will be priceless.
Joe Raposo and the Sesame Street gang will be proud!
