Kids are great observers of situations, but they rarely understand them. That’s another reason not to share “adult issues” with kids.
Don’t bring them into topics regarding the other parent, financial issues, marital or job stress and other situations where they have no control. It’s just not fair.
There’s a reason why 9-year old kids don’t drive. They’re not ready. And, they don’t have the judgment, experience or information to help you problem solve.
Ask a friend, get a therapist, talk to your minister. There may be situations where children need information perhaps about a disabled sibling or a sick parent. Give them only the information they need to know.
Want help with this? Ask an appropriate organization or a therapist. Kids only need to know they’re safe and you can handle anything. Be careful, fear is contagious.
