Provide them with a chance to learn from “real life” situations. For example:
Susan, what would you do or say differently next time?
When you raise your voice, Jeff, I am not going to respond.
Sean, when you leave your clothes on the floor, you can’t play video games.
Or, you look frustrated, Jamie. Tell me some ways I can help you.
And, seven year old boys pick their noses in the bathroom, Brandon.
This language causes the child to think about their behavior and contribute to resolutions. They actively participate in their own parenting.
Just do the best you can, Claudia
