Wedding venues are reporting smaller numbers of reservations than ever. Why?
Fewer Americans are getting married and the ones that are walking down the aisle have scaled back their celebrations to smaller, but not cheaper events.
Brides and grooms are older.
In 2015, most first-time brides were 28 and their grooms were 30.
The US marriage rate has been falling for decades and dropped off during the recession of 2008.
Even when the economy recovered, marriage rates didn’t increase. Same-sex marriages didn’t pick up the slack.
Other developed countries have a lower marriage rate than we do.
If it’s acceptable to live together and have children, couples say why bother?
Millennials lag behind previous generations on some metrics of adulthood and maybe they’ll get around to getting married or not.
Do the wedding bells toll for you?
