When we want to show someone that we understand or agree with them, we nod our head. Let’s face it, sometimes you nod when you’re being polite and pretending that you’re listening.
Recently, it’s been learned that nodding can make you seem more approachable and likable.
Being seen as likable isn’t related to your appearance, but to your personality.
People see you as more agreeable, perhaps more accepted by the person with whom you’re speaking. They see you as being part of the conversation.
Nodding can also influence you in your own opinions. When people nod, they’re more likely to agree with information they hear, but when they shake their heads from side-to-side, they’re more likely to disagree.
After all, doesn’t nodding look like you’re saying “yes” and shaking your head from side-to-side mean “no”?
You might want to include subtle nods in your everyday mannerisms.
