What is going on here?
Nowadays, the younger generation is more faithful to their spouses than their grandparents are. Twenty percent of Americans 55 and older have had an extramarital affair.
And, the trend is that those in their 50s and 60s are looking for relationships outside of their marriages.
It’s thought that Baby Boomers, who are now in their 50’s and 60’s, came of age during the sexual revolution and because sexual norms were shattered, they’ve carried new norms into their golden years.
Most Americans still disapprove of extramarital relationships, but even that is changing.
There’s a growing acceptance of these kinds of arrangements and yes, the Boomers are leading the way. Perhaps this trend is responsible for the explosion of sexually transmitted infections in the aging population.
Ah, the unintended consequences of flower power.
