It’s the sudden and immediate understanding that happens without trial and error or nearly any thought process at all.
Insight learning leads to the “ah-ha” or “Eureka” moment which is a common human experience.
When things “fall into place” with little conscious effort, you can trust your answers even if the problem is challenging.
The “ah-ha” process happens mostly outside our conscious awareness. This process has been validated by MRIs and EEGs.
Just before the ah-ha moment happens, the visual processing cortex “blinks” so that ideas can bubble into consciousness.
Analysis happens consciously and is prone to error.
When working with your child, ask them, “What’s your best guess without thinking?” and see how close they are to the target.
This process encourages that "ah-ha" thinking.
