Infants tested at 2, 4 and 6 months recall details about hidden objects, their size and location. Wow!
Two year olds can remember events occurring several months ago and 2-3 year olds have both immediate and delayed recall of specific events. Memory skills continue to grow during preschool and show substantial gains at age 7 because of increased memory capacity, the development of memory strategies and an expansion of knowledge.
Children’s memories are enhanced by talking with someone about experiences. Adults don’t recall much of anything before the age of 3 due to the lack of effective language development, general knowledge and ability to organize their thoughts. Use fun memory exercises to enhance your baby’s memory skills. Brief and frequent practice is best.
