Recently, scientists accidentally discovered that mother's breast milk has a substance, a protein, that once it reaches the gut, transforms into a killer of tumor cells.
So far, trials using this protein have had positive results in treating bladder cancer and next, the doctors will be moving onto bowel and cervical cancers.
The protein attacks the cancer cells in several ways, basically, waves of attack. First, it cleverly avoids the cancer cell's outer defenses. Second, it targets the cells' engines called "mitochondria" and third, to the "commander" which gives instructions, the "nucleus". These attacks cause the cell to commit suicide, a process called apoptosis.
We must do everything we can to support these amazing scientists as they pursue their ideas.
