Kids are taught to not fight, but when depression sets in because you won’t let your kid fight back, you may want to consider changing your stance.
Yes, I know that kids can get hurt, sometimes really hurt, when they fight because, especially boys, regardless of age, they’re strong.
As a parent, I’d rather deal with a broken tooth or black eye than to deal with a lifetime of depression because my kid doubts his competence in the world.
Of course, you have to consider your child’s strengths and weaknesses when approaching this topic and they may be just too terrified to fight, so you’ll have to take another route if they’re being victimized.
If they’ve had enough and are ready to learn how to protect themselves, teach them. At some point, they may not have a choice and may be attacked.
Once others know your kid isn’t a pushover, things will change. Just a thought…
