Typically, fathers are a girl’s first experience with men. Dad will shape the decisions she’ll make and how competent she becomes.
But, a lot of dads are afraid and confused. They’ve got no idea how to raise a girl. Dads can be overwhelmed by all those emotions. Learning which ones to respond to and which to ignore is tricky.
How can dads engage their daughters? By doing things together. Teaching her how to be competent is a start.
Maybe you can teach her how to catch a ball. If she’s old enough, why not a project?
Painting her room or restoring an old dresser may give you “side-by-side” time together. Starting with a project you can leave and come back to may be the best approach.
Don’t worry about talking, she’ll do all of that. She’ll respect your patience, skills and knowledge and you’ll just love impressing her.
