If you don’t keep your agreements, both silent and spoken, you teach them not to trust you and who can blame them?
You may quickly forget defaulting on that game of catch you promised because you have so many other demands, but for Jeff, it leaves a heart scar.
Kids don’t understand our lives and we don’t appreciate theirs either even though we were kids once. They don’t understand the mortgage, the taxes, the boss and the suffocating stress of your responsibilities. All they want is a little time to play ball.
When you conceived this child, your unspoken agreement was that you’d protect, love and care for him.
So, get up, dress up and show up for your spoken agreements. Explanations feel like excuses.
If there’s a chance you might default on a promise, tell Jeff and make another plan. Please don’t make it a habit.
