Before you talk with him (not to him) about this, observe him and what’s going on in the situation.
Watch the behavior of those around him so you can get some concrete information about the “why” behind the “what”.
- Determine if Jeremy’s being dominated by his brother or sister. What’s going on at other times?
- Is he isolated because he can’t keep up with his rock star siblings?
- Does he become even more passive in group settings such as dinner?
He may need permission to ask for what he wants. Jeremy needs to know he has power, a voice and he deserves to be heard. Talk with him in gentle terms and give him that voice.
Have a very serious conversation with his siblings about your expectations of them.
Jeremy may be a tender soul, but learning these coping skills now will serve him later.
