If your brain cells fire in a certain order repeatedly, they “connect”. This way, information can be automatically accessed from the mind without thinking about it. You don’t think twice about your name when asked, do you?
Practice does make perfect. In his book Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell says you need 10,000 hours of practice to master a skill. Though we parents complain about the amount of homework and yes, at many schools, it is ridiculous, think of it this way.
Your kids are being made masters not just with subject matter, but with organizing, planning, sequencing, time management, self-discipline and prioritizing. Oh yeah, we’ll still complain, but homework is necessary to master both content and the learning to learn process.
Show your commitment to homework!
