Learn how child predators work and ways to teach your kids to protect themselves.
Gavin de Becker, security expert and author of Protecting the Gift teaches parents effective strategies to reduce their children’s risk. This whole idea of “stranger danger” just doesn’t work.
One of my clients told me that, as a child, he waited outside the dressing room while his mother tried on a bathing suit. A man grabbed him.
As they went through the store, the man hurt his wrist and he cried out. Otherwise, it would have been a tragedy.
I asked why he didn’t yell before that. He said, “I was inside. I had to use my inside voice”.
His mother had told him all about strangers, but in that moment, the rules that she reinforced over and over and over took hold and he used his inside voice.
Do more to protect your children from predators. Read the book Protecting the Gift by Gavin de Becker and practice safety strategies. Make sure you pass along these strategies to grandparents and others who supervise your child.
