How do you teach kids to say “no” to invitations that aren’t healthy, but to be persistent in pursuing their dreams by not taking no for an answer?
It’s all about their ability to answer one question, “Can I live with the consequences of my choices?”
If they can confidently evaluate each situation in light of the consequences, they are off to a good start.
Help your kids create those “no” skills that allow them to escape situations without damaging relationships.
As for pursuing their dreams, it’s about not taking no for an answer. Shooting for a job that’s way out of reach? Go for it! While they may not get hired, they’ve gone through the valuable experience of the interview process.
Help them to see the power of “no” and put it to good use.
