When pediatricians team up with therapists, kids benefit.
The results of therapy are significantly enhanced when pediatricians and mental health clinicians stay connected regarding social and emotional issues. Kids were 66% less likely to engage in risky behaviors such as early sexual activity, alcohol and drugs when the pediatrician works closely with a therapist.
The chance of success increases to 73% when the therapist is located within the doctor’s office.
lose collaboration during evaluation, treatment and follow-up is key. We often talk about how raising kids takes a village and the concept applies here.
If the pediatrician talks about the same issues as the therapist and expresses concern and caring, the chances of the message being received are greater. Having healthy relationships with multiple adults improves a child’s adjustment to adolescence and beyond.
