Rapid toggling means you’re doing more than one thing, but you’re ordering them and deciding which one to do at any time.
The brain is easily bored and the neurotransmitter, dopamine, causes you to seek excitement. The brain has an insatiable appetite for action which allows you to perform one task while planning another! But, the brain also needs recovery time.
When every quiet moment is filled with electronic stimulation, the brain becomes over-excited, making it hard to focus when you want to. Electronic devices are an extension of kids, a “second self”.
But, there are positives. The online environment allows kids to experiment with their identity. Their intense schedules leave little time to socialize. For those who are socially unskilled, it’s less risky.
The online environment can be addictive. Monitor your child’s use and their access.
