The message of, "This is how we do things” helps kids to know exactly what’s expected of them, helps them to focus on one thing at a time and increases the chances they’ll meet your expectations.
Stress is decreased when the family structure is firmly in place. The atmosphere then becomes one where relationships can grow stronger. In hectic times, it may feel like structure is impossible, but these are the times when structure is needed most even if it’s temporary.
Effective routines take consistency and commitment. If the routine isn’t working, don’t abandon it, re-work it! Above all, stick with it until it works for the family.
Remember, you aren’t doing this just for today, you’re also teaching your children how to create routines for their families.
