Parents are farmers. We plant the seeds at the right time and under the best conditions possible.
We carefully tend to the seedlings and saplings by giving them just enough water, pray for the right amount of sunlight and rain.
We pray there are no destructive bugs, winds or blight to destroy the plants or fruit.
You hope there’s no early frost.
You hold your breath, do everything you can and bring in the harvest.
It’s a constant battle against everything destructive, most of which you have no control over, while you lean into the work and focus on the good things.
You’re both realistic and optimistic. We parents have a lot in common with farmers, but the most precious thing we share is hope.
