The brain is the first organ to suffer from the effects of dehydration. Problems with reaction time, vigilance, concentration, learning new information, using reasoning skills and memory are signs of dehydration.
Listen up, Moms! From an emotional standpoint, women are much more affected by dehydration than men and also experience fatigue, tension, irritability, anxiety and reduced motivation.
Because the body does not store water, it’s important to replenish during the day. It’s recommended for adults to drink 2 liters of water daily, but that may be inconvenient.
Start by drinking at least a cup of water an hour avoiding diuretics such as coffee. Supplement your water intake with sports drinks increasing it during hot, dry weather.
If Tommy plays soccer, he needs about a cup of water every 20 minutes during and after playing.
