By acknowledging brief moments of positivity, negative folks can start to build buffers against stress and depression and feel all the better for it!
You can’t be Mary Poppins every second because “downers” have their place in the normal course of life, but viewing the glass as being half-empty all the time is damaging to both mental and physical health. It cripples the ability to bounce back from life’s bumps.
Negative thoughts activate the amygdala which is the brain’s region that processes emotions, including fear and anxiety. Triggering the amygdala can be reduced by practicing positive emotions.
The brain can be re-trained. Learning something new, achieving reasonable goals and doing something for others helps to foster positivity.
