When a variety of light bulb colors were used, it was found that either no light or a dim red light produced fewer depressive symptoms than other colors. Light actually penetrates the eyelids and influences the brain structures that make decisions.
If you wake up in a “bad mood”, you may end up compromising your ability to make healthy decisions. You may reach for a doughnut or pizza instead of veggies and whole grains which, in turn, will add to your misery.
A completely blackened room is best, but for children, they need the comfort of a light. A dim red bulb is best for inducing the highest quality sleep and the most positive attitude the following morning.
It’s a small issue, of course, by why not control the controllable?
