Does your 3-year old spend more than an hour in front of screens? What about your 5-year old? Do they spend more than 2 hours there? If so, serious behavioral problems may be in their future. Also, they’re 7 times more likely to have a diagnosis of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.
Despite knowing this, the average 3 year old spends 1 1/2 hours a day in front of a screen.
Science tells us that screen time has a significant impact at age five. The recommended amount of screen time for children under 5 should be 0 to 30 minutes daily.
Good quality sleep offers only slight protection against the effects of screen time. Sports, however, have a highly protective effect. The more time kids spent in organized sports, the less likely they were to have behavioral problems.
