A trauma center evaluated thousands of kids and proved that psychologically abused children who experienced bullying, severe insults, isolation, and had overwhelming demands made on them such as taking on parental responsibilities suffered from anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, posttraumatic stress disorder and suicidality at the same or greater levels as did those who were physically or sexually abused.
Among the three types of abuse, psychological mistreatment was most strongly associated with depression, general and social anxiety disorders, attachment problems and substance abuse.
Child abuse is soul murder. Sticks and stones can break your bones, but words can break your heart.
