Many people are under the impression that stuttering is related to anxiety or some other kind of social-emotional problem, but it’s not.
Actually, 3 genetic mutations have been documented in the brain cells of people who stutter.
Yes, there are those kids who have so much to say that the message gets garbled on the way out, but those kids typically mature out of their pressured speech. So do the kids who have impulsivity issues. They learn they’ll get their turn.
There are also those kids who have been taught that no one listens to them, so they rush to speak, but those aren’t the kids I’m talking about.
I’m talking about the kids who, for the most part, don’t speak often enough because they stutter.
Speech therapy is very effective, especially with breathing techniques and reducing anxiety about speaking in front of others.
