- "Brick-and-mortar" stores such as Kohl's and Toys R Us are closing up shop.
- Immigrants and older workers are scooping up the lower-wage jobs. Older workers' retirement savings were ravaged in the worldwide economic crash of 2008.
- Parents don't want them to work because of the crushing schedule they had in high school. Parents want them to focus on activities that will "create value" for them.
- Many college students are "blasting" their way through to graduation in order to take advantage of the hot economy (in order to pay back their student loans?).
Regardless of the reasons for it to be difficult for you to get a job this summer, you may want to take advantage of this opportunity to get a "boots on the ground" view of a profession or job you want to take on as your life's work.
Before you make that commitment, get in there and see what the job is really all about and talk to the people who work there and ask them, "Would you get into this field if you had the chance to do it all over again?" There's a lot of wisdom to be had here.
Check out this article about getting the "bird's eye view" of what it takes.
Even if you volunteer at a job, it's "job experience"! Worth its weight in gold!
Also, HARLEY-DAVIDSON is hiring 8 people to tour the country on a motorcycle! Amazing opportunity. Here's how to take it on! This opportunity "is open to juniors and senior year college students and recent students looking for "enter the social media field". Sounds great!
Get out there!
