It was another great week on the Dr. Claudia Show as we wind our way to Christmas. Crazy yet?? Oh, just have another cup of coffee, click your heels together and say, "There's no place like the North Pole"...yeah, that should do it.

A great book that will help you on your way is Emerging Adulthood by Jeff Arnett. Check it out. I have it on my bookshelf, too. Very helpful.
They've been doing this for 107 years! Check it out.

It seems as though every week we get callers and questions about keeping us safe, but we parents need to learn what security experts know so that we can learn about the latest strategies of predators.
Gavin de Becker's book is the best one I've seen. It's called The Gift of Fear. He wrote a companion book a few years later called Protecting the Gift which teaches us how to keep our children safe.
You've got to be the student before you can be the teacher.

A woman's elderly aunt wanted a funeral for Christmas. She requested that her family contribute to funeral expenses so that she doesn't have to be buried in a pine box. She also wants them to have a "blowout bash" in her honor when she goes.
We talked about some of the trends in burials these days including having your ashes pressed into vinyl records with, perhaps, your favorite song on it or a recording of your voice. The company is called Rest in Vinyl.
In some states, your pet can be buried with you!

A Momma reached out for help with her 16-year old son who's been demonstrating severe behavioral problems. He has multiple, serious diagnoses and his current placement allows him to stay for a maximum of 45 days. The staff there is saying that they can't really help him in that little bit of time.
Parents cannot pay the hefty price tag of residential treatment and I offered the following resources...
Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates, Inc. to find an attorney who will help them to understand their rights and to get the proper services for their son, and...
The Independent Educational Consultants Association to find a placement counselor in their area so that he's appropriately placed.

A man contacted us through the DrClaudia.net "Ask Me" button because he's feeling domesticated. He wants to do the kind of work everyday that may give him a thrill. He feels as though he's losing his manhood because he's working at a job that's killing him and there is no excitement left in life. He's only 26...
I recommended that he consider a more purposeful, exciting career, but of course, he's going to have to get his wife on board.
I recommended that he look into becoming a firefighter or police officer, but if his wife of 3 years object, he may have to shift gears. I was thinking that CSI work might be interesting.
He needs to check into career counseling to expand his options. He can go to the American Counseling Association website to find a professional near him.
Good luck and be safe out there! See you next week on the radio!
