Your 13 year old is at his friend’s house.
The friend wants to break into the liquor cabinet and get drunk. Your kid wants out of this. Give him an easy way out.
Have this plan.
It’s an escape hatch.
Help your kid to develop judgment about dangerous situations and ways to get out of them. You do that by having a plan and by having the right attitude.
Once they’re safe, no yelling, threats or punishments. They’re not responsible for others, but they are responsible for their own safety. Reward them for that.

- He pretends he got a text from you and sends you the emergency code.
- You see the code and call him.
- He knows it’s a ploy.
- You yell at him to get himself home or you’re coming for him and he’s in a world of trouble.
