Ask those beloved family members and friends to record a variety of books for your children using the video feature of their smartphone or computer. Let them know it’s OK to talk to each other and laugh.
Have them make a distinctive noise such as knocking on the table or ringing a bell or whatever is fun to let you know it’s time to turn the page.
If the book is for a specific child, they can add commentary using their name.
As each child approaches the time when the book will be right for them, follow along while grandma and grandpa read and tease each other and say sweet things to their grandchild.
Reading to a child in this way creates the love of reading that will serve them for many years. To have those voices come alive for your own grandchildren will be priceless.
