Research now tells us children born to women with depression at some point before and/or after giving birth had slower development for several months.
Considering that the first few months sets the stage for mastering critical skills, these few months are important. If babies’ development slows down, they become less engaged with others and less interested in their surroundings which impact their attention, development of language and social skills.
They’re less responsive when others try to play with them. They’re likely to be fussing at feeding times and have irregular sleep patterns.
These behaviors interfere with their initial relationship with and attachment to mother who may become impatient with baby and not look forward to interacting with him.
Momma, pay careful attention to your emotional state because it affects not only you!
