Kids from poor families who succeed academically pay for it later.
Those kids with high levels of self-control and ability to focus on long-term and not short-term goals end up with less destructive conditions such as aggression, substance abuse and depression as adults. The price for their success is their health.
Research proves that these high-achieving teenagers have much faster immune cell aging which leaves them vulnerable to diseases later in life.
The chronic and intense stress of performing under adverse conditions is known to erode global health. It takes an even greater toll in young people who have immature coping skills.
As these determined and successful youngsters grow up, they need to monitor their overall health very carefully.
