Being bullied is bad enough, but when your child is bullied for specific social reasons, it’s more harmful than general bullying.
General bullying is when a child is targeted because of learning problems, poor school performance, the way they dress or because they’re new to the school.
Bias-bullying focuses on race, gender, ethnicity, religion, disability or sexual orientation. Biased bullying is very resistant to intervention and causes lifelong psychological and academic problems.
Kids who are terrorized in this way avoid school which puts them in even more jeopardy.
School safety steps help to lessen the damage done to kids who are victims of all kinds of bullying.
Teacher, family, peer and community support don’t help. Adults, don’t be bystanders. Speak up. Be part of the solution.
