The predatorial brain is different. Don't look at the package...the sweet looking teenage girl, think about the way that brain operates. The reward system of the predator's brain is highly excitable in a satisfying way when witnessing fear and pain. Yeah, it's like that...it's the reason you can't get away from a serial killer by reasoning with them or appealing to any sense of humanity they may have. They have none...
- Document all events.
- Record phone calls
- Print proof of cyber-bullying.
- Report everything in writing to the district superintendent and the police.
- Follow up all conversations about the incidences with a “memo of understanding”.
If history tells me anything it's that even when kids, especially girls, move to another school, the cyber-bullying escalates and the attacks spread to family members. If the predators can't get at their preferred prey, they'll take a "proxy" instead.
It's my considerable experience that anti-bullying programs are a crock. School districts and parents need to take responsibility for their students' and children's behavior. Swift and meaningful consequences are the only approach. Don't stand on the sidelines and expect the situation to get better. It will get worse, much worse, first.
Just do the best you can, Claudia
