There’s no time to waste.
If your child has autism, learning disabilities, ADHD, handwriting problems, deficits in playground skills or emotional difficulties, you need what I call the 4 I’s…immediate, intensive, individualized interventions.
No doctor would ever consider grouping 4 people together with lung cancer and giving them all the same treatment. Why do school districts group kids together with different problems and treat them all the same? Money.
If your child has speech twice a week for 20 minutes, they’re not getting 40 minutes of therapy.
By the time the therapist rounds up the kids, settles them in and works with them, they’re lucky to get 10 minutes and the treatment isn’t likely to be specific to their needs.
Don’t be fooled. Working with a child individually increases their progress. Don’t settle for “group work”. If your child needs individual therapy, push for it until you get it.
