We love dogs more than we love each other. And, we have more empathy for the pooches who are in tough situations than we do for suffering people.
When it comes to competing with dogs, only babies can give them a run for their money.
When a research study was done showing an attack on a puppy, an adult dog, an infant and a 30-year old adult, the adult came in last in terms of sympathy.
What’s at the heart of this? Is it because we think that the adult human can fend for themselves? They should know how to fight back and get help. The adult dog was seen as more powerful and skilled in protecting himself. The infant should have someone looking out for him.
It’s the puppy who’s the most vulnerable because he doesn’t have the strength and know-how and no one else to protect him. As a result, we feel the most empathy for him. Dogs are man’s best friend because men aren’t.
