Does your kid want a tattoo or a piercing?
A facial reconstructive surgeon I know told me that doctors prefer piercings to tattoos because the skin can recover from being pierced, but tattoos are nearly impossible to remove.
Tattoo ink can leak into lymph glands and cause serious infections as much as 10-15 years later. Tattoo ink isn’t regulated, and toxins can travel to all parts of your body.
As for piercings, be advised that cartilage isn’t able to fight off infections like fatty areas of the skin can. Don’t pierce the top of your ear or the center of your nose.
Don’t piece your nipples. They don’t heal completely because of their intricate plumbing, especially in women. The path of infection can be very severe.
Tongue piercings are OK. He recommended parents allow kids to get multiple piercings. One is sure to get infected and treatment is painful. The thrill will be gone.
