OK, so we had fun and giggled a bit before the show started, but I'm a happy girl because I live in America. Celebrate, celebrate, dance to the music!
By the way, what's your favorite patriotic song? I am torn between "You're A Grand Old Flag" mainly because I love the "chorus", "This Is My Country" and "America, the Beautiful".
Mind you, Kids II Rocking Sleepers, Rock 'n Play Sleepers and See and Soothe inclined sleepers are still on the market and are still being manufactured.
On one of the articles featuring this issue, I saw a product with the words "Day Dreamer" on it. This product showed just how dangerous it is. I searched for it. It's being sold TODAY at Bed, Bath + Beyond, Walmart, buybuyBaby, Amazon, Etsy and many were featured on those "sell-it-yourself" sites.
The President of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Kyle Yasuda, stated last month, "This product is deadly and should be recalled immediately". He went on to say, "When parents purchase a product for their baby or child, many assume that if it's being sold in a store, it must be safe to use. Tragically this is not the case".
The AAP is putting pressure on the Consumer Product Safety Commission to "step up and take immediate action to remove it from stores and prevent further tragedies".
The problem is that the sleeper is of the "incline" type. These sleepers have a 10-30 degree incline at the head area which actually compresses a baby's tiny airways and causes suffocation.
The AAP also warns parents about allowing babies to sleep in strollers (unless they are able to lay baby completely flat) and in car seats which could make baby vulnerable to a suffocation death.
Check out this link from Consumer Reports. Please share it with as many people as you can.
Read this brief post to understand the reasons for my concerns. The kids with social problems are either introverts who aren't having problems and need no intervention.
Most likely, they're kids who haven't been identified as having a developmental disorder such as ADHD or autism or social language problems.
Or, they've been identified and they're not benefitting from the services they're receiving which means an immediate change in their plan needs to happen!
Regardless, they need support and school staff is shifting the responsibility for improving the situation to a bench.
As you know, PTSD can be deadly. I recommended that parents educate themselves and get the entire family into therapy. Logically, their daughter is suffering the most from the terror of the kidnapping, but other family members experienced the terror even if only secondarily.
Don't dismiss PTSD symptoms. Don't think they will go away by themselves. Don't be fooled. And, don't let this predator get away with leaving scars for the rest of your lives. Take control and take the lead.
Share with your kids. It'll make everyone smile!!
See you next week on the radio!
